What is News?

I think that news can be anything that would be of personal interest to the public.  It generally is something that is recent or is currently happening at the time of the report, rather than something that has happened a long time ago that no one may necessarily care about right now.  For instance, when a president is elected in November, that would be news because it is something that people are very interested in and something that everyone wants to know about.  However, if there were to be something small that happened to a person that was not so significant, it is not generally considered news because it is not exactly in the interest of the public, although it may be of interest to a select group of people.
